Old wind turbines need replacement
The first generation of wind turbines, installed starting in the mid-1990s, is rapidly reaching the end of its lifetime and some are overdue for a replacement. It is estimated that about 775 wind turbines will have to be replaced by 2030. PPC Renewables, a subsidiary of state-controlled Public Power Corporation, is the only company that has been systematically taking down and replacing its wind turbines: from 2018 and 2021, it uninstalled 101 and replaced them with 23 more powerful ones. . . . Wind turbine catches fire near Mendota
The Mendota and Troy Grove fire departments were dispatched Thursday to a wind turbine fire north of Mendota. On arrival, the area on top of the tower was fully involved in the fire. Personnel secured the area and the tower was left to burn out. Crews continued to monitor the fire as it burns. East Third Road was closed because of falling debris landing on the road. Wind turbine burns in northern LaSalle County
Mendota – A wind turbine in northern LaSalle County caught fire Thursday night. Area fire departments were called to the scene around 9 PM for the blaze, which they monitored well into the evening. The 285-foot-tall structure, which according to records is part of GSG Wind Farms, was near the intersection of North 48th and East 3rd Roads. NSW Rural Fire Service crews contain blaze at Southern Tablelands turbine station
Emergency services have contained a fire at a wind turbine in the NSW Southern Tablelands. The turbine on a rural property at Breadalbane, near Goulburn, started at about six o’clock this morning. Wind turbine falls to ground in Leelanau County
(WPBN/WGTU) – The wind turbine that supplies energy to the Northport Leelanau Township Water Treatment plant is looking a little different now. According to Northport Trustee, Will Harper, high wind speeds on Wednesday, Dec. 14, caused the turbine to spin out of control and eventually fall to the ground. Strong winds damage wind turbines at the Lucelo wind farm in Spain
