Huge piece of wind turbine damaged in fall

HERMANVILLE – A section of a giant wind turbine was damaged Wednesday here in eastern P.E.I. when one of the hooks the crane was using to lift it let go. No one was injured in the incident. “The crane was lifting a tower section and one of the hooks sort of let go and it hit the ground and bent a flange,” said Wayne MacQuarrie with the P.E.I. Blown away: gales wreck wind turbines as Scottish storm wreak havoc

Fears over the safety of wind turbines in high winds have been raised after one burst into flames and another crashed to the ground. Gusts of up to 165mph were recorded in the Cairngorms in Aberdeenshire as gales brought travel chaos to Scotland and the North.
