Game Ranch Fire continues to burn in Nolan County 5 days later, land owners worried

NOLAN COUNTY, Texas – Shane Robertson is upset that a wind turbine caught fire on his 1,200 acre land and burned about 300 acres of his property. “I’m still grateful for what they do and produce and income and economy that they provide for our area, but at the same time they have to be safe,” said Robertson. Wind turbine sparks wildfire in Nolan County

NOLAN COUNTY, Texas – Firefighters battled a wildfire in Nolan County. Sweetwater Fire Chief said the Game Ranch Fire, located just north of FM 89 near the Nolan/Taylor County line, was sparked by a wind turbine. As of Monday evening, the fire had burned 1,500 acres, and was 30-percent contained. The Texas A&M Forest Service is working with Sweetwater FD, Lake Sweetwater VFD, Mulberry Canyon VFD and Nolan County VFD to put out the fire. Complete story »

Tractor-trailer fire delays interstate traffic in South Burlington

A tractor-trailer fire shut down part of Interstate 89 south for about a half-hour on Tuesday. It happened near mile marker 87 in South Burlington. The South Burlington Fire Department kept the fire from spreading from the tractor to the trailer, which was carrying a massive turbine blade. The tractor was destroyed. The driver was not hurt. Ipswich still waiting for answers on complicated process to remove broken wind turbine

IPSWICH – The future of the privately owned wind turbine that caught fire on Oct. 18, 2018, is still being determined, the select board has been told. Big rig hauling wind turbine section overturns near Princeton

A truck hauling a section of a wind turbine overturned onto its side late Saturday morning at the south junction of Highways 65 and 136 in Princeton. The Mercer County Fire Protection District reported an oversized semi hauling a section of a windmill tower tipped onto its side after the load went off the soft shoulder. Wind turbine suspected to be cause of fire near Sibley

A field fire near Sibley on Wednesday is thought to have been caused by a wind turbine. Sibley Fire Chief Kenny Huls says they were originally called to a field fire two-thirds of a mile south of Allendorf or four miles east of the east side of Sibley.
