. . Complete story »

Developers pitch new offshore wind projects off Vineyard coast

Four offshore wind energy developers eyeing the water south of the Vineyard submitted new proposals to Massachusetts and other neighboring states last week in an effort to get new wind farms in the ocean within the next several years. The new wave of projects could come as early as 2029, though the developers also had timelines running into 2031 and beyond. None of the companies plan to have any operations on Martha’s Vineyard, leaving Vineyard Wind as the only project . . . Complete story »

Concerns were raised with Limerick City and County Council (LCCC) this week regarding the health effects for local communities from wind turbines as a protest took place outside over a proposed wind-farm in Coolcappa. Over 20 residents from the West Limerick village protested at the Dooradoyle chamber before Monday’s meeting with placards reading ‘Protect Our Future Generation’, ‘560 Metres is Too Close For Kids To Grow Up Beside’, and ‘Wind Turbines Putting Wealth Before Health’. The protesters said they are . . . Complete story »

Can ‘clean energy’ schemes get any crazier?

The US Interior Department’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management recently designated two Wind Energy Areas in deepwater areas off the Oregon coast. BOEM is also reviewing offshore wind energy development options for the Gulf of Maine, Central Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico, and maybe Great Lakes. They’re part of Team Biden’s plan to deploy 30,000 megawatts of offshore wind energy capacity by 2030 and 15,000 MW of floating offshore wind energy capacity by 2035. Capacity is what the turbines could generate, when . . . Complete story »

Expansion of alternative energy senseless

In 2004, Pennsylvania implemented one of the most aggressive mandates to adopt wind and solar energy. At the time, less than 1 percent of net energy generation came from these sources. In 2023, after nearly $1.5 billion in subsidies, wind and solar generated less than 2 percent. So, what’s the point? That’s the question Gov. Josh Shapiro must answer before any expansion to Pennsylvania’s Alternative Energy Portfolio Standards (AEPS). Instead, he is doubling down on uneconomical fuels and technologies, resulting . . . Offshore wind threatens centuries of fishing, creates more problems than it solves

The New England electric grid – ISO New England – has a website that includes a display featuring two pie charts that show where our electricity is coming from, updated in real time. Right now, “renewables” are at 7% of our total energy mix. Wind is 28% of that 7%, solar is 10% of that 7%, and the rest of the renewables come from burning wood, trash, and methane from dumps. Hydro isn’t listed as renewable, natural gas and nuclear . . . Complete story »
