Tauron terminates long-term deals with wind farm operators
PE PKH, a unit of power group Tauron, terminated long-term power and certificates of origin purchase agreements with 12 wind farm operators, citing the latters’ reluctance to re-negotiate the contracts in good faith, Tauron said in a market filing and a press statement. Audit office slams Polish wind farm construction
A significant part of existing onshore wind farms in Poland may have been built while ignoring public consultations, says a report from the country’s Supreme Audit Office (NIK). Wind farm hunger strikers kicked out of parliament
Police and security guards expelled seven hunger strikers from the lower house of parliament on Thursday night just hours after the launch of a protest against wind farms. “We were dragged away by force from the building,” said head of the protesters Leszek Matusik, in an interview with RMF FM. “Some of us were carried out,” he added. “They treated us like bandits,” another protester said. Polish wind sector alarm over proposed project restrictions
If the law is passed, wind projects will be limited to locations that are at least 3 kilometers from residential properties and forest areas. Poland turns sour on large solar
Poland plans to reduce renewable energy subsidies and will now shun support for large solar projects, the country’s deputy economy minister Jerzy Pietrewicz has warned. Pietrewicz says he will amend some of the proposals set out in Poland’s renewable energy draft law last October. He claims technology advances will allow Poland to offer lower rates of support and help tackle the country’s ballooning budget deficit. Wind farm protests in tourist hotspot

Poland gives six companies rights for Baltic wind farms
The Polish government has revealed to Recharge that six companies have been given a total of 15 licences for development of offshore wind farms in the Baltic Sea. Licences have been granted by the Ministry of Transport, Construction and Maritime Economy to local firms PGE Energia Odnawialna, PKN Orlen, Polenergia, Generpol, and Baltex Energia, plus Belgium’s Deme Group. Iberdrola to shed European assets
The world’s top wind owner, Iberdrola, has contracted Italian bank Banca Leonardo to study and arrange the sale of its combined 550MW of onshore wind assets in France, Germany and Poland, according to reports in the Spanish press.
