Assiniboia, Sask. residents call for windmill project postponement during COVID-19 pandemic
A 50-turbine windmill project outside of Assiniboia, Sask. is generating concerns for residents amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Potentia Renewables Inc.’s Golden South Wind Energy Facility broke ground in August 2019. Sask. appeal court upholds extradition of man charged in wind turbine sales fraud to U.S.
A Canadian man arrested in Saskatoon in 2016 after years on the lam lost his appeal of an extradition order to stand trial in the U.S on fraud charges related to a failed wind turbine business that once attracted celebrity attention. Trudeau imposes carbon tax, with rebates, on four provinces
Justin Trudeau is imposing a carbon tax on provinces that have balked at implementing their own, doubling down on what will be a core fight in Canada’s next election. Trudeau announced a plan Tuesday to tax industrial emitters and fuels in holdout provinces. The fuel surcharge alone will raise about C$2.3 billion ($1.8 billion) in revenue next year, rising to C$5.6 billion by 2022-2023. Saskatchewan selects wind farm project
Saskatchewan’s largest wind farm project should be operating by 2021. Environment minister Dustin Duncan, who is also responsible for SaskPower, said last week Potentia Renewables was selected from among 29 candidates to build a 200-megawatt facility just south of Assiniboia. The Gold South wind farm would include up to 60 turbines in the rural municipalities of Lake of the Rivers and Stonehenge. How-to guide in the works for wind energy projects in Sask.
A how-to guide is being created to help wind and solar energy developers find the path of least resistance to building in Saskatchewan. The World Wildlife Fund is working with the University of Saskatchewan, SaskPower and the First Nations Power Authority to develop an online tool for proponents to identify project locations. Greg Poelzer, a professor from the University of Saskatchewan School of Environment and Sustainability, said the goal is to meet renewable energy targets by helping future projects succeed. . . . Government Of Saskatchewan Approves Blue Hill Wind Energy Project
Environment Minister Dustin Duncan has approved a large-scale wind energy project in the province. This is the first large-scale wind energy project approved under The Environmental Assessment Act. Located south of Herbert, the Blue Hill Wind Energy Project will be developed and operated by Algonquin Power Co. Saskatchewan approves new wind energy project with 56 turbines
HERBERT, Sask. – The Saskatchewan government says a large-scale wind energy project has been approved for the province’s southwest as a way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The Blue Hill Wind Energy Project will be located south of Herbert, Sask., and is expected to have 56 wind turbines. RM of Rocanville holding plebiscite on wind farm
Ratepayers in the RM of Rocanville will be going to the polls on April 5 to vote in a plebiscite on a bylaw that will determine if a wind farm can be built in the RM of Rocanville. The current bylaw limits the height of wind turbines to 100 meters. A proposed bylaw amendment would change the height limit to 200 meters. More details were released on a proposal for a wind farm in the RM of Rocanville last week.
