Amendment to pause wind turbine development rejected by Colchester council
Protesters gathered outside the Municipality of Colchester offices on Queen Street on Nov. 16. Their signs read “Stop the turbines” and “Don’t destroy our forests.” Inside, council heard remarks from proponents for and against an amendment which would have seen wind turbine development halted until December 2024, when the county would’ve had their municipal planning strategy and land-use bylaw in place. Fire-damaged wind turbine being dismantled
A wind turbine north of Goderich that went up in flames in June of this year is finally being dismantled. The blades and nacelle of the fire-ravaged turbine were being taken apart by a crane Tuesday. The turbine, located on Golf Course Road, caught fire in the early morning hours of June 3, 2023. Why the rush on wind energy proposal?
A recent edition of the Weekend Telegram reported on a forum that was convened to discuss the current state of review of the GH2 concept for two massive wind energy farms in southwestern Newfoundland (‘It’s so disheartening’: World Energy project a done deal, Memorial University professor speculates). Bring on the next boondoggle in N.L. with World Energy GH2
As a taxpayer in this province, I find the environmental assessment published by World Energy GH2 – Project Nujio’qonik on Aug. 22, 2023 very alarming. It alarms me because it clearly states that flora, fauna, and environment will be negatively affected by the construction and operation of this mega-project. It only states that these negative effects will be “mitigated.” How? It doesn’t say. It has completely failed to identify the negative effects of the project on the 4,600 people who . . . World Energy GH2’s environmental impact statement ‘deficient,’ more information needed for decision on Port au Port wind farm
More information is needed about the massive wind farm and hydrogen-ammonia plant proposed for the Port au Port Peninsula before a decision is made whether to approve or deny it, Environment and Climate Change Minister Bernard Davis says. Hermanville, P.E.I. wind farm a ‘fiasco,’ local group tells MLAs
About $10 million in repairs are due to be carried out at the Hermanville, P.E.I. wind farm after structural damage has rendered six of the 10 turbines at the site inoperable. Profits at the P.E.I. Energy Corporation were slashed by more than half last year, with auditors warning revenues will drop even further as the Crown enterprise tries to fix one of the province’s biggest wind farms.
