A truck carrying a wind turbine component veered off the Šiauliai-Palanga road near Plungė, in western Lithuania, on Friday.
According to Via Lietuva, the heavy-duty vehicle overturned on the roadside at around the 84th kilometer of the highway. It was transporting a wind turbine tower section with a diameter of six meters.
The state road operator said the truck, equipped with a special trailer, was hauling the cargo from the port of Klaipėda to Kelmė District.
It added that traffic on this stretch of road had not been closed and that plans were in place to remove the truck.
Ieva Krikštopaitytė, a spokeswoman for Enefit, confirmed to BNS that the tower section was being delivered to a wind farm under construction by Enefit Green in Kelmė District.
She said the truck did not belong to Enefit and had been contracted by the farm’s builders. The tower section was damaged in the incident, and the extent of the loss is being assessed.
No one was injured. Enefit plans to investigate the incident.
