Video shows wind turbines demolished in central Iowa

Credit:  Storyful · Fri, 14 March 2025 at yahoo.com ~~

The demolition of two wind turbines in Iowa’s Story County on Wednesday, March 12, was captured in spectacular video posted by the Story County Sheriff’s Office.

Speaking to Storyful, SCSO Captain Nicholas Lennie said the sheriff’s office sent a drone team out to document the demolition, as is standard for any demolitions in the county, and to prepare in case local residents reported the collapses or any loud noises to authorities.

“If you were in the Nevada area this afternoon you might have heard a few loud booms. Two wind turbines were intentionally destroyed without issue around 4pm,” the sheriff’s office wrote in a Facebook post.

Neither the sheriff’s office nor the Nevada Fire Department had information about why the demolitions were carried out.

The two turbines were owned by a company named Goodwind Energy Inc, according to wind farm registries, and in September were put up for auction by the Peoples Company, an Iowa-based farm management and real-estate brokerage firm, along with four other turbine sites in Iowa. Storyful has reached out to the Peoples Company for more information.
