Health and safety regulator responding after wind turbine collapse

Inspectors are on site after the top half of a wind turbine collapsed overnight.

A Worksafe spokesperson confirmed the health and safety regulator was looking into the incident at the Berrybank wind farm. It is believed the turbine collapsed sometime overnight between February 3 and 4, 2025.

“Worksafe inspectors are responding and will determine whether further action is required,” the spokesperson said.

Local residents saw the blades on the ground early on Tuesday when driving to work. One took the picture, above. The Berrybank wind farm is located about 14km east of Lismore and 16km west of Cressy.

The site hosts numerous wind turbines, some of which are up to 180 metres tall.

Global Power Generation Australia, the company which operates the wind farm, was contacted for comment but has not responded.

The incident comes after a man was crushed to death by a wind turbine blade at a Rokewood wind farm in November 2024.

The Australian Workers Union Victoria has since “demanded answers” and called for increased safety for wind farm workers.
