Walkers in a tranquil Welsh countryside were left astonished as they recorded a video of a wind turbine erupting in flames and subsequently exploding.

The unexpected and dramatic event took place while they were on their stroll, adding an element of shock to what was initially a routine walk in the scenic landscape.

Nick Blasdale, 61, and his wife Alison, 59, were left shocked when they saw burning parts of a turbine fall more than 100ft to the ground.

Firefighters responded to a fire at Blaen Bowi Wind Farm near Newcastle Emlyn, Pembrokeshire, at 11.45 am on Sunday.

However, their role was limited to observing the blaze and ensuring that onlookers did not approach too closely.

Alison told MailOnline: “We watched the top section burst into flames then drop off whilst still burning then explode when it hit the ground.”

In 1995, a lease agreement was signed for the 3 wind turbines, each with a rated capacity of 1.3 megawatts, predating their operational commencement in 2002.
