Worker injured in accident at turbine factory site

Yorkshire Post 5 Dec 2023

A man was taken to hospital after a serious accident at the Teesworks site near Redcar.

Medics were called to an incident at the huge regeneration site in Teesside, with the patient taken to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough.

Neither the nature of the incident nor the worker’s condition are currently known.

The incident took place at the SeAH Wind site, where an offshore wind turbine monopile factory is currently being erected. K2 Construction is the build’s principal contractor. Over the weekend, a spokesperson for the company said: “There was an incident yesterday resulting in an injury to a contractor on site.

“Emergency services were contacted and responded to the incident quickly.

“The Health and Safety Executive has been informed and a full and thorough investigation into what happened will now take place.

“Our thoughts remain with the worker at this time.”

It is the latest in a series of serious accidents at the site of the former Redcar steelworks. In June two men were injured in the demolition of a former power station on the site, with one suffering burns and a broken wrist and leg.

In September 2019, two workers – John Mackay and Tom Williams – died in an explosion. The investigation into the circumstances which led to their deaths is still ongoing.
