Syracuse council hears from wind turbine committee

SYRACUSE – Wind Turbine Committee member Ann Boellstorff of Douglas attended the city council meeting to speak on awareness of the wind turbines Otoe County.

She said the public needs to be aware of what is happening in western Otoe County. The committee had a booth at the Otoe County fair for three days and took a short survey of those that were willing to participate and in the survey of 350 people there was only one person in favor of the wind turbines.

In other business, the council approved Josh Mederios and Mike Braunsroth to the fire department and accepted a $50,055 bid for a new pickup for the utility department.

The parks department was granted approval to move forward with a ground survey at the cost of $1,700 on field D (girls softball field) , to help with drainage and drying, a new water fountain at the complex concession stand was also approved with a cost of $3,135.

Sheriff Colin Caudill reported on July’s events. The construction south of Syracuse has generated several calls for speeding through the construction zone. There was also an accident at the bridge site. Caudill stated his deputies will be very visible this week with school starting for the safety of the kids and parents.

Facebook posts are warning drivers to slow down and be cautious in this area.
