Lincolnshire fire crews were called out to deal with a wind turbine that was on fire in the county. Teams from the Crowland and Deeping fire stations attended the incident last night, April 24.

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue shared an update at around 5.45pm to say that the crews were on the scene of the fire, just off French Drove in the village of Thorney, near Spalding. The fire service said that “all residents in the area are advised to keep their windows closed.”

Pictures from the scene show a long trail of black smoke emanating from the turbine, with the main damage seeming to have been done to the generator at the back of it. It is not yet clear if the fire has now been put out, but Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue have been contacted for more information.

There are a total of 13 turbines within the wind farm understood to have been affected by the fire, situated on private land north east of Thorney between Crowland and Parson Drove. The turbines measure 100m in height and the wind farm has a total capacity of 26MW, having become fully operational in 2016.
