BUCYRUS—The Crawford County Commissioners held a public hearing to discuss the future of windmills in Crawford County.

The hearing held yesterday at the Crawford County Fairgrounds Youth Building brought out reps from Apex Energy and residents. They both agree and disagree with utilizing the windmills in Crawford County.

A representative from Apex Energy told Commissioners that people who are anti-wind share the same old discredited information to support their views.

“As President Ronald Reagan once said: “it’s not that our friends on the other side of the aisle are ignorant, it’s just that they know so much that isn’t true, “Tyler said.

He said that families and communities who support wind energy farming are benefiting economically, with job growth and good schools. He noted that properties located in other cities like Vanlue are enjoying rising property values and better schools.

He told commissioners that there are already 300 agreements in place in Crawford County. He encouraged Commissioners not to buckle to a group that causes divisions.

While being heckled, he reminded commissioners that Apex Energy abides by all federal, state, and local regulations.

One person against the wind turbines told the commissioners that he believes it is the right of property owners to do whatever they choose on their property as long as they don’t infringe on the rights of their neighbors.

He likened the giant windmills to someone building a 65-story high apartment building outside your front door. Calling the windmills a giant eyesore, it was noted that you could see as far as 32 miles from where they are anchored.

Commissioners can adopt a resolution designating any portion of unincorporated land in the county as a restricted area, prohibiting the construction of wind farms. If such a resolution is passed, petitioners have 30 days to request a referendum vote on the decision.

Until commissioners adopt a resolution to prohibit the construction of wind farms in Crawford County, one could say: “The answer my friend is blowing in the wind.”
