Proposed wind turbines

Letter to the Editor: Proposed Wind Turbines | Crawford County Now | April 14, 2022 | crawfordcountynow.com

In July of 2021, a bill passed both the State Senate and State House of Rep.

This bill became law on October 11, 2021. That bill is SB52. Thank you, Bill Rieneke, thank you, Rob McColley, thank you, Craig Riedel, thank you Dick Stien, and thanks to their colleagues who supported, and voted in favor of making this bill a law.

This bill takes the decision of transforming Crawford County from an agricultural land to an Industrial Wind Turbine Zone, out of the hands of 7 unelected board members sitting in Columbus, who may or may not know where Crawford County is without looking at a map and puts that decision squarely on the Crawford county commissioners. The Commissioners can use SB52 to stop this takeover by an out-of-state developer, without local citizens even as much as having a say in the decision. These developers will transform our county, and then as they usually do, sell the project, and move on to their next project, leaving our county to deal with the impact of 60-144 monstrous turbines, not knowing the effect it would have, or even what country’s hands they will end up in. With the decision of the County Commissioners to restrict Crawford County from big wind, the people who will be most affected by this takeover can now be involved in the decision-making.

Our County Commissioners are implementing SB52 as it was intended to be used, by letting the citizens who will have their lives changed, and their property values dropped, by having a voice in the decision to put 650′ towers with spinning blades, with a wingspan of 300′ in their community, and even in their backyards. Using SB52 to find out how the people of Crawford County feel, is the only way to proceed. After all, why would ANY developer, not want to be welcomed into a community with open arms. If you have to force your way in, then it’s obvious you’re not welcome.

Again, thank you to the Crawford County Commissioners for implementing SB52 as it was meant to be.
