Fishing industry voices opposition to Port of Coos Bay wind farm

COOS BAY, Ore. – The Coos Bay seafood industry sees much of their business sinking with the potential development of an offshore wind farm planned for the Port of Coos Bay.
The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) named Coos Bay one of three proposed “call areas”, areas with high wind potential ideal as a power source, along with Bandon and Brookings.
Tim Novotny, Oregon Dungeness Crab Commission spokesperson, says in Coos Bay that 2,181 square miles of offshore real estate that fishermen use to harvest seafood would be in jeopardy.
Fishing groups want more of a voice in the discussion with BOEM as they prepare to auction leases for a piece of the ocean.
