BUCYRUS—A Seneca County man blew back into Bucyrus earlier to be formally charged with theft for stealing anti- wind petitions from a popular local diner.

The Bucyrus City Police Department has charged John Stockmeister of Bloomville with theft, a misdemeanor of the first degree punishable with up to six months in jail, and a $1000.00 fine for the theft of anti-wind turbine petitions from LuLu’s Kitchen in Bucyrus.

According to Crawford County Prosecutor Matt Crall, Stockmeister’s wife, Shelli (an employee of Apex Energy), was not charged because there was not enough evidence to charge her with complicity. Crall also said the evidence against John Stockmeister did not rise to the level of a felony charge.

The couple were seen on surveillance footage taking the petitions and identified through a credit card used at LuLu’s Kitchen. Crawford County Now obtained a statement from her employer, Apex Energy:

Apex has launched an internal investigation into the allegations. In the interim, the employee in question has been placed on administrative leave. We take the allegations seriously and stand by our corporate values of always acting with integrity and professionalism.”

Crawford County Now will continue to follow this developing story.
