Giant wind turbine planned for Peak District farmland

Plans for a two-and-a-half-storey wind turbine for a field attached to the back of a Peak District farm have been submitted to the National Park Authority.

The eight-metre high wind turbine would be built in the garden of Brink Farm Cottage, in Bakestonedale Road which is in the far west of the Peak District.

Planning documents which have been submitted to the Peak District National Park Authority (PDNPA) state that only one turbine would be built behind the cottage and this would mean the turbine would be set a distance from the road.

A noise assessment published by an independent environment consultant, Accon UK, is also attached to the application.

The assessment showed that anyone within a 44m range of the turbine would be able to hear it, so long as there was some wind blowing through the turbine.

A document from the turbine manufacturer, Futurenergy, reads: “The user should be conscious that the turbine will produce some noise that will increase in level with the wind speed.

“This may be audible to yourself and neighbours and positioning the tower where the least effect is noticeable and no nuisance occurs is important.

“The relative noise of the turbine will reduce as the wind speed noise increases that will eventually mask the turbine.”

A public consultation is running until the end of March for any locals to comment on the application. A final decision is expected by the start of May 2022.
