Wind farm coming to La Salle County panhandle

Up to 43 wind turbines will be raised in the La Salle County panhandle.

Thursday, the La Salle County Board voted by unanimous acclamation to approve a special use for Heartland Wind LLC, which plans to develop a wind farm across multiple parcels in both Groveland and Osage townships.

The project had been unanimously approved by the Zoning Board of Appeals. There were no questions and no objections from any members of the full board.

Additionally, board member Doug Stockley (D-Ottawa) used the citizen comment portion to call for a special board meeting to discuss disbursing federal COVID-19 aid. He said the county’s share will reach $21 million yet the county has been slow in assembling and enacting a distribution plan.

“We didn’t give a dime (during the holidays) to any food pantry, any PADS organization or any organization that gives during these difficult times,” Stockley said.

Announced this month’s winner of the Student Excellence award is Emma Smith of Seneca Township High School. Emma, daughter of Luri Maier-Lorntz and Dave Smith, is an accomplished athlete and member of National Honor Society.
Agreed to add drug disposal drop boxes at additional locations including the downtown courthouse, jail lobby, sheriff’s office and east end of the governmental complex on Etna Road in Ottawa.
Meets again at 1 p.m. Monday, March 14.
