WINTERSET, Iowa —

It was a full house in Winterset Tuesday night.

Concerned residents calling for one objective – for county leaders to take a closer look at the conditions for ongoing wind warm projects.

“I do not consent to the purposed 30 turbine settlement with Mid-American Energy,” shared one resident.

MidAmerican Energy and the county attempted to reach a settlement to lower the number of turbines in the Arbor Hill project from 52 total turbines to a maximum of 30.

Landowners worry the language in this agreement provides the energy company with loopholes to continue building in the future.

They are also pushing for the county to settle their disagreements in court against the utility company.

“To not let the judge decide, shameful,” shared Michelle Brant.

“What you guys have settled for, you’re selling us out.”

Despite these claims, Mid-American believes a fair outcome has been reached for both parties.

In a statement, to KCCI MidAmerican said, “We appreciate the opportunity to collaborate with the board to find a workable compromise that is a win for the county, for landowners, and for MidAmerican’s customers who will continue to benefit from wind energy.”
