Commissioners extend moratorium for wind, power, transmission lines

Washington County Commissioners met Tuesday, January 25. Commissioner Tony Wells was absent from the meeting. Pastor Linda Hover of the Howard United Methodist Church opened the meeting with a prayer followed by the “Pledge of Allegiance.”

Teresa Traxler from the Department of Human Services gave the monthly report from the department. The minutes from the December 28 meeting, the payroll and vouchers were approved. Numbers were up slightly. The department is working on a few grant applications. They also received a mental health grant with two other counties and they will be able to provide mental health therapy with those who have had trauma in their lives. They did ask for a 2220-volt outlet in a back room so they can help families with children do some cooking.

County Administrator Misty Peterson started her report. First were two building permits for two Tuff sheds (10’x20’ and 10’x26’ on Duane and Cindy Short’s property on County Road 36 near Hillrose. Building permits 22-01 and 22-02 were approved

Emergency Manager Bryant McCall said there are 68 active COVID cases, 34 new and 16.7 positivity rate. There are some supplies and the county received a grant that is good until March to order more supplies

Bobbie and David Seymour have applied for a road access permit on County Road 28 and Road 42 and the board approved 22-01 for road access. Peterson received a letter from Tablesetters asking for donations. The commissioners approved two gift cards in the amount of $50 and $20. The board also approved a $2,000 donation to Akron Senior Meals, which meets Thursdays at the Akron Senior and Community Center.

Peterson presented a signature letter from HUTF from the Colorado Department of Transportation and the board approved signing the letter. A capital purchase for a refrigerator and freezer for the Event Center in the amount of $9,802 was approved.

County Clerk Annie Kuntz presented a Saul’s Creek Engineering contract. She is applying for a grant to help pay for the contract. The maintenance agreement will expire at the end of March and the board approved the new contract to be signed by them.

Kuntz then presented Resolution 51-2022 for election precincts and boundaries and this was approved. The board then approved a commissary agreement with Mustache Enterprises and Kevin Brown for the Event Center and this was approved.

Following, the board extended the moratorium for wind, power and transmission lines until February 25. A letter from Planning and Zoning was approved to be signed by the commissioners. Commissioner Kent Vance then presented a letter to Governor Polis asking for someone with an agricultural background to be appointed to the Veterinarian Board.

With no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
