Glenkens windfarm proposal appealed to Scottish Government for third time

Energiekontor UK wants to increase the heights of turbines at Cornharrow, where it already has planning permission for eight windmills | By Stuart Gillespie | Daily Record | 10 Jan 2022 | www.dailyrecord.co.uk

Proposals for a windfarm in the Glenkens are the subject of an appeal to the Scottish Government – for a third time.

Energiekontor UK lodged documents at Holyrood for its plans at Cornharrow near Dalry just two days before Christmas.

The move was made possible as the council had failed to make a decision on the plans for seven turbines as tall as 180m within the required timeframe.

It’s the third time the German energy firm, which already has plans for eight turbines on the site, has lodged such an appeal over the development.

It had originally wanted to build 13 turbines when its plans were unveiled in 2017.

By the time they applied to the council for permission in 2018 it had cut that down to 11.

With the council failing to make a decision, it appealed to Holyrood.

But the bid was kicked out as the proposal would have had “unacceptable, significant adverse impacts on landscape, on enjoyment of cultural heritage, on a route important for recreational use in the countryside and on the amenity of the surrounding area”.

The firm tried again last year with plans for eight turbines up to 150m tall and was this time granted approval on appeal to the Scottish Government.

But in August it lodged a new application for seven turbines, this time up to 180m tall, which is the subject of the latest appeal.
