A Minnesota firm is looking at Logan County for yet another wind farm.
Brady Evans, wind development manager for National Renewable Solutions of Minnetonka, Minn., appeared before the Logan County Commissioners Tuesday to request a Conditional Use Permit to erect a temporary meteorological tower about two miles southwest of Daily. The nearly-200-foot tower will measure and record weather conditions to assess siting of a proposed wind energy project in that area.
Evans told the Journal-Advocate afterward the initial plan is for 132 wind turbines in the area, but no landowners have yet been contacted.
“We’re in the very early stages of this,” Evans said. “We still have to work on the transmission line routing, contact land owners, all of that. There’s still a lot of work to do.”
Evans said National Renewable has a possible customer for the electricity, but nothing is final. If it is built, the wind farm will be the fifth in Logan County.
The commissioners approved the conditional use permit by a 3-0 vote.
The commissioners also gave the go-ahead to Blazen Illuminations to finish architectural lighting on the west side of the Logan County Courthouse. Previously, the commissioners had tabled that project because Blazen said it couldn’t get crucial parts of finish the project before the end of the year.
Now, the commissioners said, Blazen has managed to procure the parts and the $52,900 project will be finished before Christmas.
The commissioners also awarded a contract of $157,019 to American Building Systems to build a 60’ by 120’ equipment shed at the Logan County Landfill. Also approved was the purchase of 33 new Tasers and accessories for the Logan County Sheriff’s Office. The $105,849 cost will be covered by the county’s American Rescue Plan Act funds.
The commissioners approved intergovernmental agreements with Highland Park Sanitation District, Peetz Plateau School District and Weld School District for the coordinated election to be held Nov. 2.
