Plans for new Moray wind farm going public

Plans to build 11 turbines in woodland three miles south of Dufftown will be going on public display later this month.

The proposed 650ft-high turbines are being proposed by Fred. Olsen Renewables on high ground near Bridgehaugh near to the A941.

Should the Glenfiddich Wind Farm get the go-ahead, the company states that more than £400,000 will be made available to local communities every year for the 35-year lifetime of the project.

Project manager Rachel Baird said the turbines would provide a substantial contribution to Scotland’s net zero ambitions and also bring a boost to the local economy.

She added: “The project will deliver a range of environmental, economic and social benefits – including a community benefit fund of £5000 per megawatt of installed capacity.

“That amounts to more than £14million over the lifetime of the wind farm.

“Our two operational wind farms in Moray have helped us to develop a strong local supply chain and community links – delivering significant economic and social benefits locally.

“We look forward to identifying how we can build upon this success with the development of Glenfiddich Wind Farm.”

Fred. Olsen Renewables’ existing sites in Moray are the Rothes Wind Farm and the Pauls Hill Wind Farm near Knockando.

The new plans will be live at www.glenfiddichwindfarm.co.uk from Monday, August 23.

Local residents are being invited to take a look and then provide feedback.

Two events are also being held – one online and the other in Mortlach Memorial Hall.

The online event will be held on the website from 5pm-7pm on Wednesday, August 25.

People will then be able to drop into the hall the following day at any time between 11am and 7pm.
