Respect Stanley Peninsular No Wind Turbines starts a GoFundMe

The endeavour to thwart plans for a wind farm near Stanley has received a flood of donations after Respect Stanley Peninsula No Wind Turbines started a GoFundMe campaign.

The incorporation, that says its aim is to “preserve the historic, cultural and scenic amenity of the Stanley Peninsula”, has raised more than $5000 in the space of five days.

Respect Stanley Peninsula No Wind Turbines spokeswoman Kerry Houston said the incorporation would use the money to pay for costs of seeking professional advice to stop the Western Plains Wind Farm proposal.

She said professional advice would be needed to make representations to the Environmental Protection Authority and Circular Head Council when necessary.

“Because we don’t have that knowledge in house,” Mrs Houston said.

She said engaging professionals would “level the playing field”.

With a $10,000 target, Mrs Houston said the group wasn’t anticipating any leftovers, but would come back to the community for input for the most appropriate use of the money if there were.

“We would like to say thank you,” she said.

“We’re thrilled with the traction. For people to dig into their pockets says a lot.

“It’s preparation to fight for this, and says that people trust and respect us to act in the best interest of Stanley.”
