Group opposed to West Clare windfarm say development ‘not appropriate’

A group opposed to the development of a windfarm in West Clare say it is not appropriate for their area.

Mid Clare Renewable Energy Windfarm Ltd lodged plans last September for the 170-metre tall, 10-turbine wind farm at Cahermurphy, near Kilmihil.

MCRE says the project will positively benefit the community’s environment, and contribute around €350,000 in rates to the local authority, along with establishing a Community Benefit Fund.

However, the proposal is facing widespread opposition, with objections lodged by a number of locals.

Rose Marie Corry from the Cahermurphy Wind Farm Phase II Opposition Group says they are concerned about the potential negative impact from any windfarm, including shadow, flicker and noise.
