A proposal to build more than 70 wind turbines south of Bowman and Rhame will have a meeting June 24 at the Bowman Lodge and Convention Center at 8 a.m. The meeting is being held by the North Dakota Public Service Commission.

The company, Apex Clean Energy, has announced that the proposed wind farm would generate approximately 200 megawatts of electricity.

According to the company website, the Bowman Wind project has the advantage of existing high-voltage power lines, proximity to state highways and a verified wind resource. The company intends to lease land.

Officials announced that the project would be able to generate pollution-free energy for up to nearly 100,000 homes.

They also said that it would help generate millions of dollars into the county economy including impacting local merchants and that the power generated by the project would go into the North Dakota electrical grid.

According to recent reports, there are plans to include a temporary energy storage facility which could hold up to 100 megawatts of electricity for up to four hours.

Using Lithium-ion storage batteries at the location is part of the company’s plans for their new projects.

The Bowman Wind project would reportedly cover 44,000 acres with a possible operational date by the end of 2022.
