Why are there so many wind mill farms being put in Central Illinois? First of all, they are a blight on our beautiful prairie landscapes. They are an unreliable source of power so they do not reduce the need for other generating stations. They are very hard on birds, especially migratory birds. They are very expensive. And, according to The Economist, when you consider manufacturing, transportation and maintenance they actually have a large carbon footprint.
They only advantage is that they give people the impression that we are actually doing something about climate change. It is the biggest boondoggle this side of ethanol.
