Scant regard for countryside

It seems that there is now a new surge by developers and speculators to capitalise on the new goldrush on Carmarthenshire’s hills and meadows.
In your article last week (May 5) where you reported that the energy firm Energiekontor (German) intends to erect two wind turbines each of over 400ft high above Rhydcymerau, it is, I’m afraid, just the tip of it.
Also, above Gwernogle, Pumsaint and Crugybar a firm from Cornwall called Clean Earth are in the early stages of planning permission to erect even bigger machines – skyscrapers up to 500ft tall!
But the countryside’s defacement does not end there. In my area of Pumsaint, nearly all farms and agricultural land which recently come on to the market are snapped up, almost instantly, by developers and speculators whose sole intent is to plant trees and turn our pristine countryside into scrub and forest – even on prime Cothi Valley land!
Trees and turbines seem to be where the money lies for these far away chancers in their lust to strike it rich on our fields and hills.
Surely, this scant regard for our countryside should not be allowed. After all, ask yourself: why should we sacrifice our heritage for the vain attempt to save the planet?
