A wind turbine at Ohio Northern University in Ada was destroyed by fire early this morning.
According to Ada Fire Chief Jay Epley, firefighters were dispatched around 4:30 this morning to the Klinger Road at County Road 50.
The three turbines at that location are on the Ohio Northern University campus.
Chief Epley said the number 3 turbine was the one that caught fire.
He said his department has been instructed to not approach the turbines in the event of fire, and the only thing they could do was stand by and keep the surrounding area safe.
On the windy morning, embers from the fire were travelling farther than they normally would, but there were no other issues reported.
The fire could be seen from miles away.
Chief Epley said when the turbine finally stopped turning, he felt it was safe to leave the area.
They were on the scene for around 8 hours.
No cause of the fire has been determined.
