What benefits for Tasmania?

Letters to the Editor | The Advocate | February 16 2021 | www.theadvocate.com.au

Last week’s community meeting to discuss UPC’s proposed wind farm on Robbins Island was not only well attended by a broad cross-section of locals, but there was unanimous agreement in the hall – no one believed the Marinus Project would benefit Tasmania.

Why? Despite the spin from UPC and the state government, it’s clear that Robbins Island wind farm and TasNetwork’s giant new power lines will trash our North-West for private profits.

Worse, those profits, like the power generated, will all go straight offshore. How will we get the much-promised ‘jobs and growth’ here when power and profits go elsewhere?

The pollies need to stop Robbins Island and the Marinus Project, and begin asking communities how to manage renewables in an environmentally sustainable way that ensures we keep our power here to make jobs and lower bills.
