Have a say on ‘climate emergency’

Letters to the Editor | Daily Echo | www.bournemouthecho.co.uk

Dorset council have an on-going public consultation on their draft ‘climate and ecological emergency strategy’.

The document contains many controversial items including a commitment to lobby for the return of the rejected Navitus Bay offshore wind farm.

It is also mooted in the document that planning policy should be eased to enable the industrial deployment of on-shore wind turbines and solar panels.

The document projects 700 wind turbines and/or 30 square miles of solar panels within Dorset.

There is a proposed additional council spend of £100 million to make it Carbon neutral by 2040 (ten years early).

Methods proposed to finance this include extra borrowing and council tax reviews.

To find the documents and the on-line response form on the Dorset Council website search on ‘find a consultation’ then on the ‘find a consultation’ page search on ‘climate’.

The on-line response form allows you to skip sections and return to them later or leave them blank. You can also save your incomplete responses and return later via an email link.

The document set with ‘action plans’? and ‘technical papers’ is very large and so deters review.

However some highly contentious items are expressed in very few words.

Sadly, it is unlikely to be reviewed by more than a few.

A lop-sided review response led by fanatical advocates appears inevitable.

The consultation is open until January 20. Please have a look.
