Appeal lodged after Council rejects Inver wind farm proposal

An appeal has been lodged against the decision of Donegal County Council to refuse permission for the erection of three wind turbines in Inver.

Huntstown Windfarm Ltd have taken an appeal to An Bord Pleanála.

The application sought permission for the erection of three turbines with a hub height of up to 69m and a maximum blade tip height up to 110m at Altcor and Meenagranogue, Inver.

However, Donegal County Council rejected the application, noting in its decision a recent High Court action challenging the nature of the dine energy policies as adopted in the County Development Plan had resulted in the removal of significant parts of the wind energy policies.

This, said the Council, led to ‘deficiencies’ within the Wind Energy Policy Framework to enable the authority carry out a proper decision making process.

The Council said it would be ‘premature and contrary to proper planning and sustainable development to permit the current wind farm development proposal’.

Huntstown Windfarm Ltd submitted an appeal to An Bord Pleanála on October 13.

A decision is due to be made by An Bord Pleanála on the matter by February 24, 2021.

Huntstown Windfarm has a portfolio of renewable energy projects including the Foyle Windfarm in CO Kilkenny.
