High Prairie Wind Farm project progressing, damaged county roads to be repaired

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – Wind turbines are dotting the horizon in northeast Missouri.

The turbines are part of the High Prairie Wind Farm Project.

When complete, the project will have 175 wind turbines, built on land in Adair and Schuyler counties.

In mid-2018, Terra-Gen and Ameren Missouri announced plans to build the wind farm.

Due to the heavy equipment being transported on area roads for this project, some of those roads are now being damaged.

Terra-Gen previously worked out an agreement with Schuyler and Adair counties to address the wear and tear on the roads.

Adair County 2nd District Commissioner Mark Thompson told KTVO that roads impacted by the project are still stated to see repairs.

“If people think that their county roads are not going to be fixed, that is misinformation. I can’t speak for the state highways, that’s a MoDOT party, and we are not part of that. Yes, their county roads will be fixed. Right now I know they are dangerous, some of them, but we have been very pleased with the reaction from Terra-Gen and how they are attempting to help us.”

This project is also estimated to generate $32 million in property, income and sales taxes, over a 25 year time frame.

Ameren previously said school districts in Adair and Schuyler counties will receive a combined $1.2 million in annual tax payments.
