BARRE – Heritage Wind will be filing an application for a wind farm at the end of the month.

Heritage Wind is proposing a wind farm consisting of up to 33 wind turbines generating up to 184.8 megawatts of electricity in Barre. The project would include wind turbines, access roads, electrical collection lines, substations, permanent meteorological towers, an operations and maintenance building, and staging/laydown areas to be used during construction, which may include a potential temporary concrete batch plant.

Heritage Wind would also connect to the existing National Grid Lockport-Mortimer 115 kV power line to deliver energy to the state electric grid.

Work on the proposed project has been underway for several years.

As part of the Article 10 process, a Preliminary Scoping Statement was filed on March 16, 2018 with the state siting board. After the public comment period on the PSS, Heritage Wind replied to comments submitted a few months later.

One an application is filed and completed, a public hearing will be conducted on the application. The siting board will also notice an availability of intervenor funds available to be used by local parties to participate in the formal review of the application.

Upon filing the application, Heritage Wind will provide a total of $184,000 to be disbursed by the siting board to municipalities and other local parties to help pay expenses, including attorneys and consultants, associated with participating in the Article 10 process during the application review phase.

By law, at least 50 percent of these intervenor funds are reserved for municipalities.

The application will be available for examination during normal business hours at the local project office on 49 North Main St. in Albion. It will also be available at Barre Town Hall; Hoag Library in Albion; Haxton Memorial Library in Oakfield; Holley Community Free Library; and Lee-Whedon Memorial Library in Medina.

It will also be available online at the Siting Board’s website at http://www.dps.ny.gov/.

Heritage Wind is a branch of Apex Clean Energy.
