The Posey County Commission voted on Tuesday to send the proposed windmill ordinance back to the area plan commission, opting not to vote on the ordinance.

The proposed ordinance would regulate both wind farms and solar farms. Commissioners don’t believe the two should be linked together and request that the two should be separated into two different ordinances.

Posey county residents at the commission chambers Tuesday morning were split on the issue. Those against the project say they are concerned with those large blades interfering with the National Weather Service in Owensville.

“We’ve determined there are significant risks to public safety in Posey County related to both weather radar interference with those tall and close to the weather radar turbines in addition to the blade throw from turbines from such large wing spans, ” said Posey county resident Scott Fisher.

Council members in Mount Vernon voted against the ordinance, while the Cynthiana town council voted to table it. Depending on the vote, it could be possible for each of those cities to have different regulations.

The Poseyville town council is the only elected body that voted to adopt the proposal.
