No decision was made tonight by the Mount Vernon Common Council on whether to accept a zoning amendment that would control regulations on solar and wind power in the county.

That meeting began on a heated note with one council member arguing against the ordinance but ultimately the amendment is still on its way to an eventual vote.

That councilman proposed a motion to table the vote tonight which was rejected.

The Council approved a motion for a second reading of the amendment at their next meeting.

A representative from the plan commission spoke about public hearings surrounding the ordinance which regulates property distance, shadow flicker, and more before the vote.

“Before we made the vote I told the people that half the people in this room will be upset because we are too strict and half the people will be upset because we weren’t strict enough,” says Councilman Larry Williams

The ordinance would need to be approved next by the Cynthiana Town Council, the Poseyville Town Council, and the Posey County Commission before going into effect.

That next meeting is scheduled for December 19th.
