Reports of wind turbine applications in Huron Township untrue

HURON TOWNSHIP – There has been nothing formally filed with the Huron Township Zoning Administrator’s Office regarding more wind turbines in the township, according to Zoning Administrator Al Wichert.

A recent post on Facebook and other reports alleged that the township received an application for 21 to 31 wind turbines.

Wichert said there have been discussions regarding additional wind turbines in the township, but nothing has been filed.

“By law, I have to be notified,” Wichert said.

Before any development would take place on additional turbines, the plans would have to be submitted to the zoning administrator. Then, if all requirements are met, the plans would be submitted to the planning commission.

“This would be a long, drawn out process,” Wichert said. “This would be done in the public. It can’t just slide through.”
