Tuesday night, there were 21 individuals that were arrested in Kalaeloa and Kahuku as demonstrators stood their ground against the controversial Na Pua Makani wind farm project.

Their bail ranged from $100 to $1,000. All of the individuals were released after posting bail.

For more than a month, kia’i or protectors as they call themselves, have been trying to block the road where trucks with construction materials leave for Kahuku.

AES is building eight, 570 foot tall turbines. Families who live nearby believe the turbines are too close to their community and schools, and are concerned about the potential health effects and the impact the wind farm will have on native Hawaiian bats.
