Kirksville’s Regional Economic Development office held its annual town hall, opening its doors to the community to learn about on-going and upcoming projects. But this year’s focus is about informing the public about the High Prairie Wind Farm Project.

“They’re going to start seeing construction and all kinds of traffic going on and so we’ve got some displays about our wind farm,” said Carolyn Chrisman, KREDI’s executive director.

The displays are for the public to come in to see and hear a bit more about one of Kirksville largest economic development projects, a wind farm in Adair and Schylur counties.

“You know in the next year people are going to see turbines going up and so we’ve got some examples of the company’s Vestas is that’s going to produce the turbines. Just what they look like, how tall they are going to be and what to expect in the construction phase,” said Chrisman.

The wind farm will be the largest in Missouri. Representatives from Ameren and Terra-Gen also gave insight and answered general questions about the project’s timeline and how it’ll affect landowners.

“From what a laydown yard might look like, as they pour concrete what the base looks like. All the pieces of construction along the way people are going to see. We have photos of that so people can, you know visualize what they can be expecting in the next year,” said Chrisman.

Economic leaders say the project has been ongoing for many years and they are ready to see how it’ll all unfold economically.

“We’re just happy to be able to support the economic development for the region not only in construction jobs, long term jobs but also the economic impact for land owners that are going to be getting lease payments and also the taxes that are going to stay local for all of the school districts, the taxing districts,” said Chrisman.

Chrisman says KREDI will create a video online about the windfarm explaining details of the project, at any time. It’ll be available on their Kirksville’s Regional Economic Development Facebook page.
