Despite more opposition – developer AES is moving forward with plans to build the Na Pua Makani wind farm in Kahuku.

North Shore residents protested Wednesday, claiming too many questions remain unanswered. They also say there’s concern about overnight traffic during the scheduled six weeks of work.

“We commute every single day so it doesn’t matter the time that we leave or the time that we come back home, we’re still going to be affected by this,” said Kananiloaanuenue Ponciano, President of Ku Kia’i Kahuku.

Residents are also concerned about bridges in the area not being able to handle the weight of the wind turbines. But AES claims engineers inspected possible problems along Kamehameha Highway and conducted a test run.
