Wind turbine fire at Butterwick Wind Farm, near Sedgefield

A wind turbine has caught fire at Butterwick Wind Farm, near Sedgefield.
Witnesses said smoke and flames could be seen on the turbine’s blades.
The incident is believed to have happened around 6pm on Thursday evening.

A spokesperson from County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service said fire crews from Newton Aycliffe and Peterlee attended the scene.
The force mobilised their flexi duty officer who informed Northern PowerGrid of the incident.
EDF Energy supplier is now dealing with the incident.
The cause of the fire is not yet known and no one was injured.
