Concerns grow over wind turbines proposed height in Ocean City

OCEAN CITY, Md–Ocean City now has even “bigger” concerns over the proposed offshore wind turbines.

Developers are calling it the world’s largest offshore wind turbine and it could soon be off the coast of Ocean City .

The new plan calls for building turbines that would reach 853 ft into the air.

Some worry how it could distort their view of Ocean City’s coast.

” I want to see boats, seagulls, dolphins, beauty , and nature not windmills,” says one visitor.

The US Wind officials say the increased height now allows them to reduce the number of turbines off the coast.

OC officials say they’re in support of clean energy, just as long as it’s unseen.

Other people say the distance doesn’t matter, as long as the resort town has clean renewable energy.

But, the mayor says the project isn’t the right fit for Ocean City.

“Once you include the blade, that’s well over 800 feet tall that’s almost 2 and a half times the height of the largest building in Ocean City, so these are significant structures that are going to be placed off our coastline.”
