Second appearance for rejected Lairg windfarm

Revised plans for a wind farm near Lairg have been tabled, four years after being rejected by the Scottish Government.

SSE Generation Ltd (SSEG) has submitted a scoping report for 26 turbines on Glencassley and Glenrossal estate.

Highland Council originally raised no objection to the application in 2013, but Scottish ministers refused it in 2015 because of impact on the national scenic area and wild land.

Now SSEG says it wants to review and optimise the design taking previous concerns into consideration.

The wind farm has been relocated away from the north-west of the site, towards the operational Achany and Rosehall wind farms.

The exact capacity and turbine dimensions would be dependent on environmental and technical considerations, but SSEG have advised the turbine tip height would be more than 500ft.

The scoping report is being issued to Arday and District, Criech and Lairg community councils and Kyle of Sutherland Development Trust.
