No voice for the wind turbine projects

The Advertiser-Tribune | Jul 12, 2019 | www.advertiser-tribune.com

In a Seneca, Huron, Erie, Sandusky and Crawford counties area residents are left without a voice in industrial wind turbine (IWT) projects that will impact their area. Not one, two, three, four, or even five, but SIX potential IWT projects are currently in some stage in the development process. What voice is there for people who are slated to live only 1,300ft from these 600+ foot tall IWT’s? Little to none, all because of Ohio’s flawed siting policy.

In Ohio the only option for concerned citizens, Townships, Counties, Conservation Groups, Park Districts, and even local Schools is to hire a lawyer and spend endless dollars hiring experts to refute outsider wind developers ill conceived plans. It shouldn’t be this way and it doesn’t have to be

That is why our Representative Bill Reineke crafted a provision and inserted it into HB-6 that allowed for local affected Townships to have a referendum on IWT projects. Communities accepting these projects will still be able to embrace them, while areas with other plans in place for their communities will be able to vote against projects that just don’t fit. Only local residents know what is right for their area.

Contact Chairman Wilson wilson@ohiosenate.gov and the entire Senate Energy and Public Utilities committee and urge them to reinsert the local wind referendum provision into HB-6 today.
