Windfarm neighbour left without water

27 June 2019 | www.3ba.com.au

What do you do when your home – and farm – no longer have any drinkable water..?

For Janene Skidmore, it means drowning in red tape.

The Mt Wallace local lives on Ballan-Geelong Rd between the existing Yaloak South windfarm and the much larger Moorabool windfarm which is currently under construction.

A contractor has been using explosives to help with the excavation process 500m away – which has caused fine dust believed to be laden with PFAS to blow onto her farm

The chemical is used in older-style fire retardants and is known to have washed into waterways running from the Fiskville CFA training complex 5km away.

The chemicals do not break down in the environment and pose a risk to health.

Janene says she is struggling to get anyone to test her water, let alone provide a permanent solution.

She is also critical of solutions that would involve waiving her right to make a complaint or leave her home.

A contractor working on the Moorabool windfarm posted a video of an explosion at Mt Wallace on YouTube (screenshot above). It was removed after the video appeared in The Age newspaper (below).

The windfarm company has been contacted for comment.
