Controversial wind farm plan in Scotland could be the biggest of its kind in the UK

Plans for a controversial new wind farm for the border of Dumfries and Galloway could be the biggest of its kind in the UK.

In total the project is expected to bring eight hundred million pounds to the local economy over four decades, and could power more than three hundred thousand homes each year.

Faw Side Community Wind Farm is set to be located approximately seven kilometres north of Langholm and 18 kilometres south west of Hawick.

The planning application seeks permission for up to 45 wind turbines which will reach up to two hundred metres in height.

Locals are worried that the new development will contaminate water supplies, cause flicker (strobing when the turbine hits the sun) and disrupt the quietness of the area. There are also concerns that house prices will plummet.

Directors for the company promise Faw Side will bring a number of economic and environmental benefits to the area.

The development is expected to offset over 571,000 tonnes of CO2 per year and provide a significant contribution to both the Scottish and the UK net-zero emissions targets.

A drop in session is taking place in Langholm for locals and residents to view the application directly. They will also have the chance to raise their concerns and put forward their questions to project managers.
