It was a full house at the Arcade Fire Hall Tuesday afternoon, dozens of residents in the three county radius attended a public hearing for the controversial Alle-Catt Wind Farm project.
The company Invenergy plans to install more than 100 wind turbines throughout Allegany, Cattaraugus and Wyoming Counties. The wind farm is expected to span about 30,000 acres and generate 340 megawatts.
Invenergy says economic boost for all three counties, but the folks living there have mixed reactions.
“It’s mission critical,” said Ginger Schroder of Farmersville. “We will do absolutely everything it takes, to preserve what we think is one of the most beautiful places, here in New York State. Cattaraugus County and its enchanted mountains. It is not the enchanted wind turbines.
“I think they’re missing, the amount of quality jobs these projects put forward,” said Gary Swain of Machias, former wind farm worker. “We had hundreds of operators and laborers and ironworkers working on these projects, all that live right in our community.”
The company is leasing land from private citizens to complete the project. The next public hearing is at 6 tonight at the Pioneer High School on County Line Road in Yorkshire.
