Welcome to West Lafayette, wind turbine sanctuary city

I am glad to see West Lafayette acknowledged as a sanctuary city for wind turbines.

How hard it must be to vote in favor to save the city from climate change. From what I read in the article wind turbines of a regulated height could be erected within the city limits. So, I suggest they mandate every resident, business or municipality install such turbines on their property along with an energy user tax that would be based on the amount of energy used that was not produced by wind. This would cover both bases for those who could not install a wind turbine or when it was idle. This tax could go into a fund to build solar alternatives to supplement the wind energy on the calm sunny days. How about a hydro dam on the Wabash? Better yet, let us also eliminate all fossil fuel use in the city limits to show a real commitment to save the city from going down in flames. If you can think it, you can do it.

As a landowner in both Tippecanoe and Montgomery counties, I refuse to have the wind turbine eyesores on my fifth generation family farm so some corporation can destroy more fertile farm ground. I have to admit wind turbines would look nice in West Lafayette a true monuments to the city’s 100 percent “green” commitment. Unfortunately, today we just want to look good and say the right thing to be politically correct and avoid controversy.

If West Lafayette is so concerned being “green,” then rather voting to say we are for wind turbine energy but our hands are tied, find a workaround as suggested. We will see how committed the community is when they put their money where their mouths are.
